ATOMS BASKETBALL CLUB

Atoms Basketball Club is a community-based organization not run for profit & based in Melbourne, Australia. Established 1996.

For 25 years the club has encouraged participation in the game of basketball in Kew, Hawthorn and surrounding areas.

The Atoms Basketball Club began its operation with one single team in 1996.

Brenda Wellard was asked by her son if he could play basketball and she entered a single team into the HAWTHORN BASKETBALL ASSOCITAION (HBA) called The Bandicoots, an under 10 Boys side.

Steadily the Club grew and in 2002 the club went from 6 teams to 18 and became "The Atoms Basketball Club" In 2009 the Club went over the 350 player mark with 16 girls and 24 boys teams - competing in various age divisions from Under 9 through to Under 20. The Younger teams are predominantly at Hawthorn West and Kew Primary Schools and many teams have maintained the team into their secondary schooling and beyond.

In 2007 Brenda took a sea change from her position in every role with the Atoms Basketball Club that she built, after an 11 year tenure.
